Cambodia
The Foundation supports the developmental and emergency relief projects of the De La Salle Brothers in Cambodia. The Brothers originally arrived in Cambodia in 1906 and established some very well-regarded schools in Phnom Penh. However, due to the changing and volatile political situation, they were forced to flee the country in the 1972.
Areas we work - Phnom Pehn
The DLS Brothers Vietnam returned to Cambodia about six years ago after a request from the Bishop of Phnom Penh to educate the poor. This demographic includes poor Cambodian and migrant Vietnamese children. The Brothers are hoping not just educate the children directly but to help the local community understand the value of literacy, numeracy and education.
This new primary school, Lasalle Pothum, opened in December 2011. This school will accommodate up to 200 children but the Brothers are already planning the second stage of development, with an adjacent parcel of land already purchased for the expansion of the school. This complements the small hostel run in central Phnom Penh to support young disadvantaged boys in accessing education. We hope this is the beginning of a long term partnership to support a variety of development initiatives in Cambodia to improve the lives of the poor and needy.
