The Foundation supports the developmental and emergency relief projects of the De La Salle Brothers in South Sudan working under the name of “Solidarity with South Sudan (SSS)”. The Brothers arrived in 2009 to establish a sustainable teacher training program. Currently, this teacher-in service program tackles illiteracy, poor school attendance and completion rates, inadequate teacher training and subsequently, the substandard quality of teaching. They are working in Juba, Wau, Malakal and Riimenze.

Areas we support

The Lasallian Foundation continues to support the work of the De La Salle Brothers in partnership with Solidarity with South Sudan (SSS). SSS is a consortium of more than 170 religious congregations. SSS trains teachers, nurses and pastoral personnel in several locations throughout South Sudan.

After decades of civil war, when the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed in January 2005, the bishops of South Sudan invited the Unions of Superiors General (USG and UISG) to consider the needs of their people. Following a consultative process it became clear that projects related to education, health and pastoral care are needed if the goals of the CPA are to be achieved.

SSS has responded to these needs through the development of teacher training colleges, nursing schools and clinics especially in remote parts of South Sudan.
